“Our university’s engineering resource center oversees six different diversity organizations, and SASE was the only one relevant to me. Even better, they promised they’d have tacos at their information session, so, naturally, I went. I’ve been hooked ever since! To me, SASE has been like a family away from home these past four years. At the National Conference in 2022, I got to meet so many different SASE members from across the country, some of whom I had met during the pandemic but had never met in person. It was a really cool, full-circle moment to finally be together in the same place, especially because of the shared organization and interest that brought all of us together in the first place. I’ve found SASE to be such a great way to meet people who you wouldn’t have met otherwise. It’s a place to find mentors, meet people who are pursuing your dream career, talk with members of industry who have been in your place before, or just get to know other students who can talk about which professors you should and shouldn’t take. There’s so much room to grow and learn just from being in SASE. I encourage everyone to get involved as much as you can, and it’ll pay off in the future. Embrace your creativity and keep going. You make SASE a better place by bringing your strengths to the space – don’t be afraid to get out there and do your thing!”
