Collegiate Star Overview
The SASE Collegiate Star Awards recognize outstanding members within the SASE Collegiate community. Collegiate Stars are undergraduate students who have shown exceptional leadership, dedication, and/or mentorship within their chapter or region during the academic year.
Based on nominations from the SASE Collegiate community, one (1) student will be selected as the Collegiate Star and one (1) student as the Collegiate Star (Honorable Mention) from each region (West, Midwest, South, and Northeast).
The winners will be:
Recognized and awarded at the upcoming National Convention
Featured in this year’s SASE Magazine
Nomination Deadline:

KEEP IN MIND: The reviewers (in this case, the Regional Managers) may not personally know the Star you are nominating. The more thought, thoroughness, and effort you put into your nomination, the better we are able to know your nominee.
Nominees will be reviewed upon the following criteria:
Leadership
Is this an individual that shows initiative? Do they foster innovation and growth? Do they have a positive influence on the people around them?Dedication
Does this person work hard to improve the community? What contributions have they made to the goals and objectives of SASE, whether it be locally, regionally, or nationally?Mentorship
Does this individual foster a collaborative environment? Are they guiding the personal, professional, and/or social development of others?Uniqueness
There will be many different nominations for this award, so how does your nominee stand out? What are the special achievements this individual has accomplished that sets them apart from the rest?
You are free to nominate any collegiate member from any school/region (including yourself). You may also submit multiple nominations for different people. Previous recipients are not eligible. Consider nominating:

General
Will my application be viewed differently if I self-nominate myself for an award?
No, please feel free to self-nominate, nominate someone else, or do both.
Can the nominator submit multiple nominations?
Yes.
Can multiple people nominate the same candidate?
Yes.
Will the nominator be notified if their nominee is selected? Will the nominee be notified?
No, the nominator will not be notified if their nominee is selected. However, the nominee will be notified via email, and they can request a list of their nominators to thank personally on their own.
Can a nominee be eligible for both Collegiate Star and Volunteer Star Awards?
Yes, for example: if the nominee is a member of their collegiate SASE chapter, and also a volunteer for a National SASE committee. (See below for the list of committees.)
Can a nominee be nominated for both Collegiate Star and Volunteer Star Awards in the same year?
Yes, nominees can be nominated for and win both Collegiate Star and Volunteer Star Awards in the same year.
Collegiate
How many winners are selected for SASE Collegiate Stars?
One collegiate star winner will be chosen from each region based on their chapter location: Midwest, Northeast, South, and West.
Who is evaluating the nominations? How does the judging process go?
Regional Teams will convene to evaluate the remaining nominations and select winners who have the following qualities: dedication, impact, and leadership.
Volunteer
What is considered National SASE Involvement?
Involvement includes being a volunteer for any of the following committees: National Conference, Human Resources, Collegiate, IT, Professional, Leadership, Development, or Marketing.
Does being a National Conference volunteer count as being a national volunteer?
If the nominee is a volunteer under the National Conference committee (involved in the pre-planning of National Conference), then yes.
What if the nominee volunteered nationally but took a hiatus? Does that time count toward their years as a national volunteer when they come back?
Yes, any time as a volunteer counts towards SASE Stars.
What is the difference between achievements and impact made?
Achievements are personal accomplishments; impacts are achievements that directly influence others.
Ex: achievement would be winning a design contest, being promoted to manager
Ex: impact would be mentoring people, community service
Who is evaluating the nominations? How does the judging process go?
The HR Volunteer Relations team will determine whether nominees meet requirements, and sort nominees into categories. Then, the panel of last year’s SASE Star winners will evaluate the remaining nominations to determine the winners. Nominees’ names will be hidden during this process to avoid personal bias.
How will the judges determine how long a nominee has volunteered for?
The HR Volunteer Relations team will calculate based on the nominee’s volunteer status when nominations are closed. They will round down to determine the years volunteered (3.5 years means 3 years).
